I am an absolute car fanatic who cannot get enough of automobiles. Currently, I am exploring different car brand names. During my research, I was intrigued to find out how the letter W is quite popular among historic brands but not so much among modern car manufacturers.

Thus, I decided to make a list of all the car brands that start with W, including both old and modern, whether they are functional or defunct. Most of the auto manufacturers on this list hail from Europe, while there are a few from America and Asia.

So, are you excited to learn which automakers start with the twenty-third letter of the Latin alphabet?

Western Star

Western Star Trucks Sales Inc., commonly known as Western Star, is a US-based truck manufacturer founded in 1967. The company is a subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Its logo comprises a big, bold, capitalized W in industrial-style font with a five-pointed star over it in the middle.

WEY

WEY is an automotive brand owned by Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd., a prominent Chinese privately owned automobile company. This marque was launched in 2016 and focuses on building premium SUVs and crossovers based on Haval models.

WEY aims to become the world’s leading luxury SUV brand and the benchmark of China’s intelligent car manufacturing. One of the most interesting facts about this modern firm is that its products meet the most rigorous safety standards in the world. I would like to see if WEY can embed its vehicles with advanced safety systems like the Ford Blue Cruise.

Wuling

Wuling Motor Holdings, or Wuling, is another Chinese automobile company with W-initial. Actually, it is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd., founded in 2007. This company produces engines and commercial and consumer vehicles like trucks, buses, electric cars, and people moves. Wuling has one of the most beautiful logos on this list, comprising a red, five-diamond W.

Weltmeister

Weltmeister is a Chinese electric car brand founded in 2015 and owned by WM Motor Technology Co Ltd., which specializes in making battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The company launched its first production car, namely EX5, in 2018. Weltmeister aims to make affordable cars and conquer the local market.

Workhorse

Workhorse is an American technology company that designs and builds electric cars for commercial use. The company was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in Sharonville, Ohio. This car brand that starts with the letter W also makes electric delivery vans, drones, and telematics software designed for last-mile delivery.

W Motors

W Motors is one of the prominent luxury car brands that start with W. This Dubai-based company was founded in 2012 and is the first maker of high-performance luxury sports cars in the Middle East. W Motors works on automotive design, research and development, and vehicle engineering and manufacturing.

Westfield Sportscars

Westfield Sportscars is a manufacturer of factory-built and kit versions of many two-seater, open-top sportscars. The company was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Bicester, England. Westfield’s main product is a “Lotus Seven”-inspired car that is designed to give riders the rawest and most exhilarating driving experience. Westfield XTR2 and Westfield XI are some popular products of this automaker.

Weber Sportscars

Weber Sportscars is a Swiss manufacturer of sports cars. It is a subbrand of Weber, a medical equipment manufacturer from the early 1980s. In 1990, Weber took a new path in the development of road sports cars and, for that, created a special division, Weber Sportscars, in 2000.

This brand also designs and builds sports cars for street racing. In 2013, Weber created the cult favorite Weber Faster One. This 1200 hp supercar currently is one of the fastest legal sports cars in the world.

Weineck

Weineck Engineering is a German auto manufacturer that specializes in building heavy-duty engines and vehicles. One of the most notable works of this firm is the Weineck Cobra Limited Edition. This supercar is built on a chassis similar to the Shelby Cobra.

Welter

Welter Racing is a France-based sports car maker founded in 1990 by Gerard Welter. This maker is well known for having its primary focus on competing in 24 Hours of Le Mans. Welter has built many prototypes, like the 2001 Welter Racing LMP and 2008 Welter Racing LMP2, that it uses to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Wiesmann

Wiesmann GmBH is a German car maker founded in 1988 in Dulmen, Germany. This automaker specializes in hand-built custom convertibles and coupes. Wiesmann company originally started making hardtops for convertibles. 1997 Wiesmann Roadster, 2008 Wiesmann GT MF5, 2008 Wiesmann GT MF5, and 2011 Wiesmann Spyder are some of the most popular builds of the brand.

Wallyscar

Wallyscar is a Tunisian manufacturer of cars. It was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Tunis, Tunisia. Since its establishment, Wallyscar has designed several mini crossover models mainly for off-road adventure and thrill. This automaker produces about 600 units per year, and its vehicles are mostly present and used in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

WCC

WCC, or West Coast Customs, is a car repair shop that focuses on vehicle customization like the 2006 WCC HHR. It was founded in 1993 by Ryan Friedlinghaus and Quinton Dodson in Burbank, California. WCC produces custom cars and branded merchandise, franchising, and trade school courses, among other products.

WaterCar

WaterCar is an American company that specializes in developing and manufacturing luxury amphibious vehicles. This company was established in 1999 by Dave March and is based in Southern California. In 2013, WaterCar released its first commercial vehicle called the Panther. It has a top speed of 80 mph on the land and 45 mph on the water. Currently, this company holds 27 patents related to amphibious vehicles.

Wolseley

Wolseley or Wolseley Motors Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturer founded in 1901 by Vickers Armaments and Herbert Austin. The company used to build full-range, luxury, and sports cars and dominated the market in the Edwardian era.

However, the company was bought in 1927, and Wolseley products were now badge-engineered as Morris Cars. Wolseley’s name was still alive and went with its sister businesses into BMC, BMH, and British Leyland, where its name lapsed in 1975.

Wanderer

Wanderer was a German company that used to build automobiles, vans, motorcycles, bicycles, and other machinery. It was established in 1896 and built civilian automobiles until 1941 and military vehicles until 1945 when it got defunct.

Wartburg

Wartburg was a trade name of East German cars that was in production from 1956 to 1991. It primarily used to build compact cars meant for public use. In its initial 12 years, Wartburg produced the Wartburg 311 model based on the IFA F9 but with a new, modernized chassis. It created three modifications: a station wagon, a roadster, and a pickup truck. However, in the next 13 years, it built Wartburg 353 in several variants.

Willys

Willys was an exclusive brand name used by Willys-Overland Motors, an American automotive company that was founded in 1908. This W-initial brand is best known for designing and producing military Jeeps and civilian versions during the 20th century. From 1912 to 1918, it was the second largest car maker in the US after the famous car brand that starts with F, Ford.

Waltham

Waltham was an American manufacturer of motorcycles, bicycles, motorized tricycles & quadricycles, buckboards, and automobiles based in Waltham, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1893, and its first car was built in 1898. During its lifetime, Waltham designed and produced several steam, electric, and diesel cars.

Warren-Lambert

Warren-Lambert Engineering was a Brisith auto manufacturer that was established in 1912 in Richmond by Warren Lambert. The company started designing and building a two-seat four-wheel cyclecar, which became a massive hit among people.

The first car was made in 1912 and was powered by a 9-hp two-cylinder. The second car was produced in 1914, featuring a 1093cc 10 hp four-cylinder Dorman engine, which was discontinued in 1915 due to the outbreak of World War I.

This company came to an end in 1922, with its last car built in 1921.

Wendax

Wendax was a German car marker based in Hamburg who lived from 1949 to 1951. Initially, the company used to build railway equipment but moved on to making cars in 1949. In its two years of car building, Wendax made tricycles, compact cars, and passenger cars.

Winnipeg

Winnipeg was a Canadian car maker founded in the early 1920s. The company developed two complete car models, which were touring rides of compact size. The company was short-lived. It was established in 1921 and was defunct in 1923 due to financial troubles.

There, you have the different car brands that start with the letter W. Some are long gone, a few have been working for more than three decades, and there are some who have just entered the business for a few years now. Learning about the history and present of all these automakers made me see how not only the top automakers like Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, and more but also the small ones have impacted the global automotive industry.
